A 1095B tax form (see above), which lets the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) know whether your child(ren) had health care coverage from Florida KidCare, was previously mailed to families enrolled in one of the Florida KidCare programs (Healthy Kids, MediKids, Children's Medical Services and/or Medicaid). This tax form lists each child who had coverage and the months the child was insured.

There is no longer a requirement to mail a 1095B tax form to Florida KidCare families.

Starting with the 2020 calendar year, Florida KidCare families were not mailed a printed 1095B tax form. This information is still required to be reported to the IRS on any individual who qualifies for health care coverage under the Florida KidCare program.

If anyone in your household was enrolled in a Florida KidCare program in any part of the previous calendar year, then the IRS was sent their health coverage information. There is no action needed on the part of a parent and the form is not required to file your federal taxes.

However, a copy of the 1095B tax form can be provided to a parent upon request. If you would like a copy of this form for any tax year, please call Florida KidCare at 1-888-540-KIDS (5437) Monday – Friday between 7:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time.

The following information will need to be included by the requestor in order to process the tax form request. Be prepared to confirm this information when you call:

As a reminder, the Affordable Care Act requires minimum essential coverage. Florida KidCare is considered minimum essential coverage.

Frequently Asked Questions on the Minimum Essential Coverage Requirements

Here are the answers to some questions we’ve already received. If you have any other questions, please call us at 1-888-540-5437.

  1. My child had Florida Healthy Kids for all of the previous calendar year. How will the IRS know?
Florida Healthy Kids will send that information to the IRS. A parent may still request a copy of their child’s 1095B tax form if they would like one. They will need to call Florida KidCare at 1-888-540-KIDS (5437).
  2. Can I apply for a premium tax credit for my child, even if he/she is covered by Florida Healthy Kids?
No. Children in Healthy Kids already receive help with the cost of their coverage Children who can get Healthy Kids for $20 per month or less can't get a premium tax credit.
  3. I am paying the full-pay premium for my child. How do I apply for premium tax credits to help me with payments?
Premium tax credits are not available for Florida Healthy Kids full-pay participants. If you want a premium tax credit, you must apply for coverage through the healthcare.gov website during open enrollment.
  4. Can I have Florida Healthy Kids for my children and still get a premium tax credit for myself?
Most parents with children on Florida Healthy Kids may qualify for a premium tax credit through the Federal Marketplace, although there are times when that isn't the case. You can find more information at healthcare.gov.
  5. I prefer to have all of our family-members on the same health plan through the Federal Marketplace. Is this possible?
Only children that are eligible for the full-pay program have the option to participate with their parents in the Marketplace. Children who can get Florida Healthy Kids for $20 per month or less must by law remain in this program.
  6. How is the rule that a child must have health insurance handled in a family where the parents are divorced?
Only one parent can claim the child as a dependent. That is the parent who will report the coverage and who might owe a penalty if the child goes without health insurance.
  7. Can I get my child’s coverage history on the Florida Healthy Kids website?
No. You can request a copy of any year your child was enrolled in Florida Healthy Kids and would have received a 1095B tax form. You may contact Florida KidCare at 1-888-540-KIDS (5437) to make this request.
  8. How do I get a 1095B form if I lost my copy or I did not receive one?
