Healthy Kids Corporation Board Welcomes New Chair and Members at First Quarterly Meeting of the Year

Tallahassee – On Tuesday, March 8, 2011, the Florida Healthy Kids Corporation Board of Directors held its first quarterly meeting of the year under the direction of new chair-designee Wendy Sartory Link, a West Palm Beach attorney and child advocate. Link was tapped by Florida CFO Jeff Atwater to lead the 13-member board that includes doctors, child care and policy experts, and local advocates. Florida Department of Children and Families Secretary David Wilkins, Agency for Health Care Administration Interim Secretary Elizabeth Dudek, Hillsborough County Commissioner Sandra Murman, and Dr. George Hutter, who serves as vice president of medical affairs for Morton Plant Mease, are also new to the board. Healthy Kids is a public-private corporation that administers Florida KidCare, the state and federally-subsidized health insurance program for school-aged kids up to age of 18.

During the meeting, the board addressed a number of issues, including new tools, administrative simplifications and technology the Corporation is considering to increase Florida KidCare enrollment and retention, such as the development of a mobile application. Technology has improved access to the program, as 85-percent of applications are now submitted online. Currently, more than 1.9 million children are enrolled in Florida KidCare receiving access to regular doctor visits, dental check-ups and immunizations.

“This is an important program. Since my appointment, I have gained a greater understanding of Florida KidCare, its partners and its impact on the families who depend on its services,” said Link. “I am committed to working with the board and the corporation to ensure qualified families can access the program, and we can help meet the health care needs of Florida’s uninsured children.”
