Florida’s First Healthy School District Symposium Hosted in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. – Studies have long shown the connection between better health and improved classroom performance, and Florida’s Coordinated School Health Partnership is taking active steps to achieve a healthier Florida in 2018 by hosting an innovative Healthy School District Symposium on Wednesday, January 17, in Orlando. Educators, researchers, health departments and health promotion partners from across Florida will participate in data-driven panel discussions and presentations on topics ranging from school lunch programs to the accessibility of insurance options for children.

This inaugural event features a talent-rich list of presenters, including: Penny Taylor, Director of the Office of Healthy Schools for the Florida Department of Education; Melodie Griffin, Florida coordinator for Action for Healthy Kids; Joe Davis, Director of Strategic Partnerships and Outreach for the Florida Healthy Kids Corporation; Rick Parks, Director of Nutrition Standards for the Division of Food, Nutrition and Wellness for the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services; Dr. Shannon Suldo, Professor of School Psychology for the University of South Florida and Zack Gibson, Director of Governor Rick Scott’s Office of Adoption and Children Protection; and more.

Recognizing that Florida’s students will soon become Florida’s leaders, the Symposium aims to set Florida’s students up for a successful and heathier future. Participants from Tallahassee to Tampa to Fort Lauderdale and all cities in between will gather together to share successful classroom strategies and innovative behavioral ideas in hopes of moving this shared mission of a healthier Florida forward.
